Supporting PCYC Albury
Getting young people active by developing skills, leadership and character in the youth of the community.
The project we would like to concentrate on for this year is our ‘PCYC Summer time Well Being Program’ to be run during school holidays.
It is aimed at 12-18 year old young people who are either youth at risk or vulnerable due to their home life or family circumstances. The aim of the program is to engage the young people in productive sport to increase their fitness and health.
Delivered in a supportive and inspiring environment the program will consist of a variety of sports played on Friday nights during the school holidays; Basketball, Boxing for Fitness, Volleyball, Hockey and Soccer. Transport, uniforms, coach fees, food and materials are part of the expenses for delivery of the program.
Following the sport activity on the evening young people will assist in cooking a nutritious meal and assist with clean up.
During their involvement at the club we would like to spend money on landscaping and furnishing an outdoor area to make it youth friendly as a ‘Chillax lounge’ zone for young people to utilise for training and presentations.
The benefit to participating in this program:
- Gain knowledge and understanding of sports
- Through participation build self esteem and confidence
- Develop leadership skills through empowerment of young people
- Develop an understanding of the importance of teamwork
These life skills are often not taught or young people are not exposed to this as their home life is either not supportive or lacks role models.
